About This Quote

I seemed to still be alive. Which was unexpected. I'd feel good about it when I stopped retching my insides up. The quote above is a quote that is often mis-understood and taken out of context.

This quote is taken from the book, “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. In the story, Arthur Dent meets a man who is stranded on Earth after his spaceship has broken down and his friend, Ford Prefect, had gone off in search of a new home for them both. The two men start their journey together, and as they travel through space, they meet many characters who are interesting and funny.

After a while, Arthur begins to feel sick and eventually vomits his insides out of his mouth. He ends up being saved by a man who appears to be a doctor who takes him home and shows him a giant computer that keeps track of everything that happens on Earth. Arthur asks the doctor if he can make a call back to Earth from the computer, which he can't do because radio waves don't travel through space as easily as light waves do.

However, he does realize that he seems to still be alive, which was unexpected as well as good news since he would have died if the problem had been serious enough for him to pass out from lack of oxygen.
